Review - Neal's Yard Remedies Orange Flower Facial Oil

I love, love, this product!
I've always been a fan over the years of facial oils, having previously used E'spa Regenerating & Replenishing Treatment Oils & Clarins Orchid Blue Oil, but this is a different product altogether. It seems almost lighter in texture and yet just as effective. So much so, I can use it of a morning and still apply my make up as it absorbs pretty quickly.
Generally, I would use facial oils during winter months when my skin becomes particularly dryer, but this is ideal for this time of year due to, as previously stated, the lighter texture.
What catches me instantly is the beautiful aroma from the organic orange flower (neroli) oil. I actually inhale the oil before I apply it! The blend of organic oils found in this amazing product is incredible, from pomegranate seed, evening primrose, seabuckthorn, macadamia seed to hemp seed oil. These are powerhouses of goodness helping to reduce signs of ageing, antioxidants, promote healthy skin and complexion, soak up free radicals, contain essential fatty acids to keep skin in optimum condition, and the main ingredient - orange flower oil - is renowned for the ability to reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
No wonder I love it!!! I am a big fan of using quality products with quality ingredients to keep those pesky wrinkles and signs of ageing at bay!!

It comes as a 30ml bottle, and the good thing is, if you can be a bit 'clumsy' with products of this nature, it comes with it's very own pipette to save waste or spillage..meaning, it'll last longer! The recommended use is a few drops in the palm of your hand, then massage into the skin in circular motions.
If, like me, you're used to using oil and would rather not use the pipette, I tend to turn the bottle 2-3 times into my hand and this tends to be enough to cover face and neck. The choice is yours!

You can layer this facial oil with Nourishing Orange Flower Daily Moisture or Night Cream for added moisture, but speaking as someone with a dry/dehydrated skin, I've not had to do this due to the intense nourishment of the oil.

I also use this product during my facials to perform the face, neck & shoulder massage with amazing results!

What is Propolis?

The word 'propolis' means 'defender of the city' hence it's amazing therapeutic benefits at 'defending' our health and immune system and fighting off an attack from bacteria, fungus or parasites.
It is a resinous, sticky gum, which is collected by honeybees from trees. The colour can vary from yellow/green to dark brown depending on the source and age.
Historically, it is one of the most valuable apicultural products due to it's medicinal properties and is used worldwide. It is the most important natural 'drug' used in the beehive due it's anti-bacterial and anti-radiation properties.

But, why would YOU use this product and how do you use it?
The benefits from using propolis on a regular basis are endless, so what are you waiting for?!

Propolis strengthens the immune system, is a natural antibiotic, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and anti-viral, as well as having an anti-histamine effect.
It also helps with:
* Allergies
* Candida
* Sadness
* Stress
* Skin conditions
* High blood pressure
* Respiratory problems
* Depression
* Mouth dentistry and much, much more!

It has also been used in the treatment of the following:
*coughs/colds *tonsillitis/laryngitis *chronic fatigue syndrome *burns/scalds *flu *asthma bronchitis *to diminish the side effects of chemotherapy, and as I said before, much, much more!

As a tincture, the resin is blended in this particular product I use from the Vonnybee range -and have done for about 8/9 years now - with French Armagnac, although during 2014 a 'sin alcohol' version was created and available on request.

Propolis
The bottle comes with its very own 'dropper' so it is easy enough to literally just pop the required dose on the tongue as required.

How often would I take it?

On a personal note, as it is for me the MUST have natural remedy EVER and is what I would call my 'lifesaver' - see previous blog My Journey into Health and Wellbeing - I take it every day and I do not get ill.
Depending on your personal requirement would depend on the amount and frequency. If you are displaying symptoms of illness, then 3 drops per day for 10 days and if you were taking as an 'Immune System Booster' then 1 drop per day for a month, then I would advise you see how are feeling at this point as to how you will continue to take.

I am a huge advocate of natural remedies from the beehive, both personally and for my family!

Here's to being 'healthy from the inside out'.

For enquiries visit vonnybee.com

**Please note**
as propolis is reported to be spasmolytic, it may decrease the blood pressure, therefore if you suffer from low blood pressure should avoid taking, or alternatively you can alternatively speak with their GP for guidance.

Review - Guinot Masque Essentiel Nutrition Confort

So, as I am sat here thinking about #FaceMaskFriday I thought "Why not share something about my favourite ever face mask today!" Et Voila!!
For about 17/18 years now one of the staple products to be found in my skin care collection is Guinot's Masque Essential (I won't keep writing the full name, but you get the gist!).
"Why?" I hear you ask. Well, let me tell you why.. basically, it is amazing, it is as simple as that and let's face it how many of you reading this now can honestly say they have been loyal to one product for so long?! There is a reason why still to this day, it is Guinot's best selling product to date and here is why..

This mask does exactly what it says it will do. It works instantly to give you radiance, as well as nourish, hydrate and brighten your skin. Two of the main ingredients that strike you when you apply the mask are the aromas of lavender and menthol. On application the menthol can cause a slight cooling/tingling to the skin, but this is a normal sensation and does not occur on everyone, so not to panic that you may be having a reaction, it is just a stimulating mask. The advantage of the menthol is that not only does it help condition the skin but also help clear the sinuses, bonus!
The mask needs to only be applied in a thin layer as it is very rich and creamy in consistency, as you can see from the picture here..
 masque essentiel
One of the things I love about this mask too, is that you can apply it close under the eyes unlike other masks, as it helps with dark circles as well as help clear sinuses and aid you to breathe more easily. Once applied you can leave on for about 10-15 minutes - although to be honest I leave it on longer if I have the time as I love it so much - and it can be used x2-3 per week. It is also great, the day after the night before, to rehydrate the skin after alcohol consumption!
My tip when removing the mask, is to use tissue to take off the excess layer initially, due to the oil content, before removing with warm water and face cloth/mitts or cotton wool pads, or you will be there forever!! Let's keep it simple!!
Once you have toned and moisturised, your skin will feel and look amazing.

Love this product! And if you want to 'try before you buy', see if you can get your hands on a sample from your nearest Guinot salon!

Review - Neal's Yard Remedies Rose & Geranium Body Polish

It's my first time using this fabulous product today, so much so, I had to share the love straight away!
What struck me immediately was the beautiful aroma that is rose otto essential oil, it does also contain geranium - as stated in the product name - and ylang ylang essential oils too.
These amazing oils along with argan shell and rice powders, which act as gentle exfoliants, skin enriching and moisturising shea butter, soya and coconut oils all combine to help soften, nurture and smooth the skin..

It's so easy to use, you literally massage in circular movements to damp skin, then rinse away! Easy!

The great thing I also noticed is, unlike some body scrubs, your are not left with a bath/shower full of product remnant, which is always a bonus!

My skin feels amazing..so soft and smooth and my body oil I applied afterwards has been absorbed into fresh, new skin.
I highly recommend this product..it gets a 10/10 from me👌

What is Bee Pollen?

Bee Pollen is a natural, holistic remedy made by honeybees. The bees gather pollen and nectar from the best flowers in our environment. They then take them back to their hive and pack this goodness into pellets.
It is stated as being one of the most nutritionally rich foods on our planet which contains nearly all the nutrients needed in our diet for your health and wellbeing. The abundance of nutrients include: vitamins B1, B2 B5, B6, B12, C, D, calcium, iron, zinc and many more. It is also a Superfood

Bee Pollen can be used medicinally for a wide range of conditions from skin conditions, to hayfever, as well as help correct specific nutritional imbalances in the body and much, much more.

Here are just a few reasons to add bee pollen to your daily regime:

* Improves skin - the amino acids and vitamins protect the skin and aid regeneration of cells, therefore, helping its general appearance.

* Energy Enhancer - the range of nutrients found in bee pollen makes it a natural energiser. The proteins and vitamins can help keep you going all day by enhancing stamina and fighting off fatigue.

* Treats allergies - aids everything from asthma to allergies to sinus problems, not to mention hayfever as it is the natural antidote for this awful condition. We often refer to bee pollen as 'hayfever fixer'.

* Aids respiratory problems - bee pollen is wonderfully effective against a wide range of respiratory conditions due to the high quality of antioxidants that may have anti-inflammatory effect on the tissues of the lungs, preventing the onset of asthma. On a personal note, since using bee pollen I have not used an inhaler for approximately 7 years - previously it was x2 daily. Please note, this is due to continual use and not just 1 jar!!

* Improves digestion - as well as the numerous nutrients found in bee pollen, it also contains enzymes that aids digestion. These assist our bodies in getting all the nutrients from the food we eat.

* Immune system booster - bee pollen is good for intestinal flora, as well as this it has antibiotic properties that can help protect the body from viruses. It is also rich in anti-oxidants that protects the cells from the damaging oxidation of free radicals.

* Hormonal issues - it stimulates and restores ovarian function which can assist in getting pregnant.  It is known to assist in enhancing your mood, an anti-depressant, as well as aids diminish negative effects of stress. As well as being a hormonal booster, and  it is also an aphrodisiac!!

There are so many other reasons I could list here, some personal and some not so personal, either way, I think you get the picture!! It basically helps everything and by taking just x1 teaspoon per day it can help your health and wellbeing on so many levels, I have no idea why so many people do not use it!

And... the good news is beekeepers are able to remove pollen from the hives without harming the bees.

 I am a huge advocate of natural remedies from the beehive.

Here's to being 'healthy from the inside out'.

Neal's Yard Remedies Organic - Skin Care

Those who know me well, know I am a sucker for a good skin care routine! Always have been.
I realised during a recent facial consultation that I have only ever used 3 products ranges in the past 20 years as a therapist - Clarins, Guinot and E'spa. All fabulous products within their own right and luckily I trained with all 3 companies and had the pleasure of providing treatments over the years in my career, the latter two, for several years in my salon. Basically, they all done what they said they would and all produced fabulous results and it is because of this that I could give facials all day!

Fast forward to 2014, my life changed direction dramatically and I took the plunge into self-employment again. I began networking with 2 lovely ladies - you both know who you are - who introduced me to the 'blue bottle world' that is Neal's Yard Remedies. I was looking to add a range that was also of a high quality to my therapies, so me being me, I researched the products and the company, because after working with such fabulous products so closely, I needed to make sure they were on a par, because I could not work with a range that I either did not like or believe in, or more importantly, use myself!
So, fast forward again, this time to February of this year, I took the plunge and signed up! I became a Neal's Yard Remedies Organic Consultant and I can honestly say I am chuffed!!! I even have my own website...it's amazing take a look http://uk.nyrorganic.com/shop/andreagough

Not only does the company's philosophy sit well with my beliefs of being healthy from the inside out, but the products are AMAZING and high quality, ensuring you don't need to use a lot of product, making them more economical in the long term.
All skin types are catered for and the results I am seeing and the feedback I am receiving is so pleasing to me, not to mention how peoples skin is looking after receiving a holistic facial.

Personally, the products I am currently using are Wild Rose Beauty Balm - which I LOVE (a review on that will follow soon) Frankincense Toner, Frankincense Hydrating Cream, Rosehip Oil when I feel I need it, which is apparently a favourite with Kate Middleton during her pregnancy, White Tea Eye Gel and Frankincense Firming Mask.  Even though I have always looked after my skin, I can see a visible difference myself in such a short space of time.

Changing your skin care regime can sometimes seem daunting and you may ask yourself those familiar questions...
"will the products work?"
"what is my skin type?"
"how much will it all cost?"

The answer may be to try a skin care kit for just £20 which I think is great, because they are worth every penny. You get plenty of product and can see if you they are right for you without a huge expense. Click here to view the selection of skin care kits..

But don't be fooled! NYRO is not just about skin care...oh no! There is a whole host of other ranges, such as, body, mother and baby, health supplements, gift sets and much, much more..feel free to click on my 'shop' and browse away.

The Power of Reiki

My reiki journey began quite a number of years ago now as my interest in complementary therapies developed and the reason for this post is because even now, it continues to blow my mind and I would like to share why!!
After completing my reiki first degree, then after quite a lengthy period - as well plenty of self-treatment - I completed my second degree and March of last year I became a Reiki Master, since which time I have noticed how much more powerful the effects are for people, myself included.

Reiki has a big place in my heart from a personal level when last year my lovely, brave mum was fighting that awful disease, cancer. She wasn't big on getting treatments, but one Saturday afternoon when she seemed to be in a lot of discomfort and couldn't get comfortable, I offered to give a her back massage whilst she was in her chair - she would normally say no, but not today - so, I took the opportunity to use reiki at the same time. To see and hear her response is one that will stay in my memory forever. The relief she felt and what both my sister and I witnessed was incredible.
Sadly, even though she got a lot of relief at that time and her breathing regulated and she fell asleep, we had no idea that that would be our last day with her.. But, the point of my sharing this story, is to urge all of you who have family, friends, loved ones etc who are suffering with this disease, to recommend reiki to them. They won't regret it!

There are so many stories I could exchange, but you may all switch off and get bored! So, I will try and keep this bit brief (and somewhat cheerier!). Only this week, I have treated some new lovely ladies, they had 20 minute 'tasters' and having never had reiki before, I could tell they were somewhat apprehensive! But, within minutes they were relaxed and the feedback was amazing. One lady mentioned "when you were stroking my face.. then I could feel you on my arm" and when I replied "I never touched your face, or your arm" she was gobsmacked to say the least, but was blown away! The following evening, I happened to see her and asked how she had been after her treatment and she had a lovely, deep sleep and found it difficult to get up that morning, but felt really good and was looking to forward to booking another session. Another lady fell into a deep state of relaxation very quickly, which afterwards she was surprised at because she felt she wasn't sure she would 'believe' it would work..she rebooked there and then for a full treatment in a couple of weeks, which was very pleasing.

There are so many benefits to Reiki:
* Relaxation
* Relieves stress and tension
* Aids sleep
* Aids the body's ability to heal
* Helps spiritual growth and emotional clearing
* Strengthens the immune system and much, much more.

My Journey into Health and Wellbeing

Well, it's been a while since I wanted to finally starting blogging and FINALLY after setting up Blogger last year, I am now sat down, typing my first blog...yayyyy!!

Over time I have debated on all the things I hope to blog about, but now, here I am wondering what best to start with! So, I am thinking why not start with me..and my journey into health and wellbeing.

I have been a beauty therapist for 21 years now (wow..how did that happen?!) then along the way I became drawn to all things alternative/complementary, so began adding various therapies such as Indian head massage, hot stones, reiki and much more to my skills, as well as partaking in workshops for  crystals, E.F.T, dowsing etc. As time went by, I became more aware of 'being healthy from the inside out' and I was introduced to a lady many years ago during my time as a lecturer, through the National Wildflower Centre, who is a beekeeper and apitherapist, Yvonne Matthews, aka 'Vonnybee'. She was developing a range of products from the beehive for your health and wellbeing and coincidentally I then lost my voice, and as a lecturer that proved to be difficult!
Fast forward 6 months and a number of visits to a speech therapist to get my vocal chords to work again, then being hit with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome due to the virus which hit my body from the stress of my job..I began taking Bee Pollen and Propolis from the Vonnybee range as well as 2 bottles of the Bach Flower Remedy 'Oak' for fatigue/excessive tiredness etc. The specialists of CFS would not admit that the natural remedies were behind helping me back to good health, but I know they did, as I am sure they did really! I have to say it was a relief to finally get my voice back and feel 'normal' again. Still to this day, I take natural remedies and urge everyone to join me.

Read my story below, in this months Woman's Own Health and Beauty Special.

Find my story in this months magazine!
